    Description

    Welcome!
Offered for your consideration is a rare example of a nugget set bolo of wonderful natural turquoise
which is a fabulous example of Effie Calavaza's early work, her best work. She was married to and collaborated with Juan Calavaza, who was the nephew of Dan Simplicio and learned from Dan Simplicio. Juan was three years younger than Dan and each died in 1969 and 1970. respectively. This piece is an earlier piece of Effie's and Juan's. I've attributed to her since I have a signed bracelet by her with the identical setting of stones and identical leaves to the leaf on this bolo and this is a rare form of leaf. Not similar, but identical! This is before they moved on to exclusively do snakes. This bolo is truly gorgeous and the best of artistry. Fabulous turquoise stones, a piece based on the C31 Bennett closure, which probably confines the dates from 1957 to 1967. The tips are original but I replaced the tie with a 6 ply buttery soft top quality one. Note the lovely stamp work around the outer rim. Sadly Effie is no longer with us, so there won't be more wonderful work from her.
This bolo is a big size, measuring 2-3/4" (6.98 cm) H x 2" (5.08 cm) W. The tips are 2-1/4" (5.72 cm) H. The tie with tips end to end 40" (101.60 cm) long. Condition is excellent vintage with one age related crack in one stone that doesn't endanger the integrity of the piece.
The bolo was made of ingot silver and is at least coin silver, though unmarked for silver content as is typical of that period of time. This beautiful bolo is highly collectible and a rare example. It's gorgeous and a favorite of mine which I commend to your attention. Very rare and very beautiful and very valuable. Museum worthy and suitable for the best collections.

Yes, I sometimes can take reasonable offers.
I request payment by PayPal in two days, but planned in advance of purchase, alternate payment methods and time payments can generally be arranged.
I generally ship same day. Domestic: FREE expedited US shipping. I’m including insurance on all my shipments till the PO resumes full functionality.
International buyers pay actual shipping cost if I’m shipping myself rather than using eBay’s Global Shipping service, and International buyers are responsible for any customs fees their own countries may apply. Please discuss changing shipping method prior to purchase. My shipping defaults to Express International, which is tracked and insured, but I can use Priority Mail International. It's less expensive and is also tracked. First Class International is no longer offered by the US Postal Service. I charge the actual shipping cost and since shipping to each country costs a different amount, I will charge a little extra and refund the exact difference once I can put your address in and print a shipping label. I am no longer shipping to Italy and China, but can make exceptions if you speak with me about it, especially if you are a prior customer.
Returns will be accepted for 30 days after your receipt for any reason and without question. Please let me know if you would like to return something. Returns must be in the same condition they were shipped. If I make a significant mistake in a listing I'll always give you a full refund. The 20% restocking fee does not apply when the mistake is mine. I care that you're happy and about my accuracy, and will always stand behind my work. My attributions are guaranteed for my lifetime.
When I include pages from published books in my listings it is in accordance with Fair Use Law, which permits the use of source material for discussion, reference, education and criticism.
Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.
