    Description

You're bidding on a Japanese 1941- 45 Great East Asian War medal. Please take care in examining the photos for the condition of this medal and its box as they're the exact ones you're bidding on.
This medal was established with Imperial Edict 417 on June 21, 1944. This medal was never actually given to any military persons and it's not exactly known who was to receive it, but speculation is that it was to be for all military person who fought during those years. Before the medal could be awarded, the American occupying forces destroyed the approximately 10,000 medals that had been minted along with the molds.
Replicas of the medals were created sometime in the late 1950s to early 1960s by nationalist organizations to give to war veterans of the original medal and all medals that you see today are actually replicas since none of the originals survived. This is one of those medals. A 35th anniversary medal was also minted by the Federation of Japan Nationalists with the same obverse but a map on the reverse side.
