William Ewart Wright
​Born June 20, 1892, in Pickering Canada to Father William Valentine Wright 1859-1893 and Mother Isabella Elizabeth Carall 1857-1913. He was 5’10” tall with brown hair and green eyes and a “split lower lip”. Wright served as a volunteer in the British Red Cross Society arriving in France on September 24, 1915, serving with the unit as a “Chauffer” until July 9, 1917. Wright enlisted as an 3AM in the Royal Air Force on August 15, 1917, and was commissioned om January 20, 1918 as a Lieutenant until discharged with “Chronic Nephritis”.
​Wright returned to Canada on October 23, 1918, aboard the ship “Durham Castle” listing his last time in Canada as 1914 and “Building Construction” as his trade. Wright arrived in the United States through the port at Seattle Washington on February 14, 1919, aboard the ship “SS Governor”. Wright married Margaret Mundy (Neil) (1890-1984) of Pennsylvania on April 3, 1923. Wright and wife Margaret had one daughter (Maxine) and one son (Joseph).
​In September of 1929 Wright was working as an instructor in the Boeing factory in Oakland, CA. According to the 1930 Census and depositions from naturalization records, Wight became a draftsman at the Caterpillar Tractor Factory in Alameada, Ca. Wright applied and was finally granted US Citizenship on November 29, 1931, while living at 229 S. Lidsay St., Pico, California. According to the 1940 Census, Wright had become a public-school Shop Teacher at Tamalpais High School.
​Prior to the US entrance into WWII, Wright organized and commanded a unit of the California National Guard in Marin, California. Wright left teaching in 1942 to become a contractor for the US Army Corps of Engineers, constructing equipment cases. In 1947 Wright developed land and opened a sheet metal business that would eventually be run by his son Joseph upon Wright’s retirement in 1954. William Wright passed away on May 16, 1959, at the age of 66. He was survived by his wife Margaret, son Joseph Wright, daughter Maxine Wright (Hinds) of Buffalo, NY., sister Mabel Wright of Palo Alto, CA., and seven grandchildren. Also entitled to 1914-15 Star and British War Medal as well as possible entitlement to US Medals.
