Edward Kenneth Purcell Fuge
Fuge was born in Templemary, Buttevant, Co. Cork, Ireland on July 11, 1894, to Father Richard Purcell Fuge (1865-1958) and Mother Mary Stewart Dillon (1866-1945). Fuge attended Campbell College from 1906-1912. 1st XV 1911-1912. Fuge was the middle son of 3 sibling boys.
Fuge was commissioned a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the infantry on May 7, 1915. He embarked on the RMS Olympic (Sister ship of the RMS Titanic) to Mudros, arriving on November 22, 1915, attached to the 14th King’s Liverpool Regiment in Salonika. He was noted as attached from a reserve battalion to the King’s Liverpool Regiment as a Temporary 2ndLieutenant on October 20, 1916. He was again promoted to Temporary Lieutenant on July 11, 1917. At some point he is reported as having been severely wounded, but there are no source records available. He is also listed in some documents as the rank of Captain, but this is also not verifiable through available records. No other war service is noted.
Fuge’s older brother, W.V.G. Fuge also attended Campbell College and later R.M.A. Woolwich, 1911-1912 and was later commissioned into the Royal Artillery in December 1912. He later transferred to the Corps of Signals. During WWI he was MID twice and awarded the MBE. He retired a Major in 1935 but was called back to service during WWII.
Fuge went on to a career as a Clerk for the Ministry of Labor in the LG. He married Dorothy Mabel Victoria Crone (1897-1976) of Glencorran, Ardmore, Co. Waterford, Ireland on December 3, 1921. He was the Founder and first Chairman of the York Rugby Football Club. Fuge did not have any children. He passed away on March 7, 1975, in Youghal, Cork, Ireland. Also entitled to a 1914-15 star and British War Medal.
