    Medal group correctly impressed to 2228 PTE. R. W. HUSBAND. W. YORK. R.
    Ralph William Husband
    Born November 2, 1895, in York, Yorkshire, England to Father Joseph Husband 1869-1922 and Jane (Jinny) Raw 1869-1929. Husband had 2 sisters and 8 brothers with 1 brother dying as an infant. Husband’s Father was a wagon/railcar Painter, and his mother was a homemaker. As of the 1911 Census, at age 15 Husband was working as a “Steam Hammer Driver”.
    Husband arrived in France with the 5th Battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment on April 15, 1915. Husband was listed as wounded in action on October 2, 1915, sometime during the Battle of Aubers Ridge. Details of his wound are unknown, but he did return to his battalion at some point, survived the war, and was eventually transferred to Reserve Z status on March 23, 1919.
    Husband Married Maud Lenegan (1898-1959) of York, England on March 28, 1921. In 1939, Husband listed his occupation in 1939 as “Master Blacksmith” with the London Northeastern Railway. Husband’s wife passed away on August 6, 1959. Husband died on January 7, 1962, in York, England. He was survived by three sons.
