This regiment was composed of Punjabi Muslims and Pathans, equine sickness prevented them being sent to the Western Front. They were sent to
East Africa to protect the Uganda Railway and were decimated by sickness, returning to India only 30 strong. The regiment later served with distinction in the 3rd Afghan war. The famous author Francis Yeats-Brown served with the regiment and resigned in disgust when it was amalgamated with the 37th Lancers.
