Description

Large Unusual White Light Colored (Pic 3 Black & White area at the top) Tugtupite fl. Deep Red (7"x6"x5")  (17.8 cm x 15.3 cm x 12.7 cm)
Kvanefjeld, Illmaussaq complex, Narsaq, Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland).  Large surface area of Fl. Tug as seen in Pic 1.
Collected in the late 1990's.
Unknown Fl. white area.
This specimen was in the Thomas Warren museum display at the Sterling Hill Mine mentioned in the Spring 2004
Picking Table
, page 37.
The large surface area that FL. a bright Crimson Red is interesting in that at least half is a black mineral that looks nothing like traditional Tugtupite.  It is either Tugtupite that is mixed in with the black mineral or it is "black" tugtupite.  It even has an unusual FL. under long wave.  Given the brightness of the Red Fl. under SW, one would think that it would be an equally bright Salmon orange under LW.
Fl. picture taken with a Way Too Cool 9 watt SW Pic 1, & LW lamp (pic 2). Dull Fl. under MW not shown.  No Fl. on the reverse side.
Lights up an entire display even with an old 9 watt lamp.
Fluorescence is limited to only those wavelengths as described.
