Description

Willemite, Dolomite, Smithsonite and Aragonite
Incredible patterns of vivid
fluorescent
green-white Willemite,
red Dolomite,
blue-pink Smithsonite and white-gray Aragonite
highlight this incredible specimen.
All UV photos are under shortwave ultraviolet (SW-UV).
Last photos are of me collecting at the Aroona Zinc mine. Bright and enduring yellow and blue phosphorescence.
This  specimen is from the Aroona Zinc Mine, Northern Flinders Ranges, South Australia, Australia.
The Aroona Zinc Mine is
officially
"mined out" and no more specimens will be coming out and the mine site is currently being restored.
For more information on this remarkable deposit refer to a research article in the
Mineralogical Record, volume 22 November-December 1991 "Minerals of the Beltana Mine, Puttapa, South Australia"
or go to
Mindat.org
.
Sp
ecimen was collected by mineralman in November 2015.
You must use a
good
quality
SW/UV lamp to see the colors.
Puttapa and Aroona were run by the same company (Perilya) during mining operations. Rock from Aroona was trucked to Puttapa for processing during the life of the mines. Consequently, many of the early specimens offered as from Puttapa may have in fact been from Aroona. All Aroona and Puttapa specimens I offer were personally collected by me.
This is a very bright and large cabinet size specimen.

Specimen Aus187 is 4.35"x 3.40"x 2.25" and weighs
1 pound 5.5 ounces.
Look for me at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society Show (TGMS) February 2022 for the

in the Convention Center at my regular
space 1701-1703 in the big black tent
.
The focus of the show will be Fluorescent minerals!
This is the SHOW you do not want to miss.
Numerous fluorescent mineral collections will be on display. Highlighting some of the most fantastic fluorescent minerals ever to be gathered in one spot!
See you there and don't forget to ask about our "Special Fluorescent's"! I set aside mixed flats of hard to find/rarer single specimens.
I will also be at the MGSCV Gem and Mineral show (West Coast Glow) March 2022
at the Newark Pavilion
in Newark, California. Look for me in the Fluorescent Hall.
Active FMS members receive a 10% discount on show minerals and I will have the "Special Fluorescent's" flats with me.
All other customers bring a packing slip or receipt from any online transaction with mineralman to either show and receive a 10% discount on
show
purchase total.
See you there!
Graham has stolen 2 thousand pounds of fluorescent rock from me and I advise fluorescent rock collectors to avoid him in Tucson. He spins a good story but that is all it is, a story. For details contact me directly.

NOTES ON ULTRAVIOLET:
The higher quality the Ultraviolet (UV) source, the better fluorescent minerals look. Critical factors include;
filtration (Hoya glass vs Plastic filter or lens),
lamp wattage, bulb composition, lamp construction, wave length and distance of lamp to specimen. For best results with any UV source, observe against a black, non-fluorescent, non-reflective background, in complete darkness with eyes adapted. To dark adapt your eye's, you must be in complete darkness for approximately seven (7) minutes. The photos here were taken using a WAY-TOO-COOL Shortwave (SW), Midwave (MW) or Longwave (LW) lamps, metered and exposed to show fluorescent response to its best advantage
.
The more powerful the ultraviolet lamp, the brighter the fluorescent response.
I will indicate which wavelength is
appropriate for the particular specimen being offered at auction and wavelength (SW/MW,LW) used as well as the wattage of UV lamp used for photography.
I use a 9 watt WAY-TOO-COOL lamp to illuminate most specimens.

Due to recent changes at Ebay, it is now necessary for me to ship purchases within one business day of receiving payment. I will often ship the same day if payment is made sufficiently early. Please, if you want to combine shipping with subsequent purchases,
do not pay
until I invoice you with the correct discounted combined shipping. Just let me know when you are ready for the invoice.
If you pay, I have no choice but to ship
.

International shipping is not cheap and PayPal adds to the problem by charging a higher percentage for international transactions. Ebay also charges a commission on the shipping paid for both international and domestic purchases. I charge you what it costs me - I do not profit from shipping. Once I mail or ship a package, the time in route or
ANY
damage to specimen(s) is out of my control. I do pack all specimens using the latest techniques and care.
