    Description

Tugtupite on Analcime with Rare Micro-Crystals
    Taseq Slope, Ilimaussaq Complex, Greenland
    4” x 2" x 2”, 9.8 oz
This piece of tugtupite has some small vugs with micro tugtupite crystals. The tugtupite is phosphorescent as shown in the photos. Rarest of the rare...
Until 2001, tugtupite was really only known from the tugtupite mines on Kvanefjeld. There were reports of other varieties and locales, but none were ever made available to collectors. Crystals were unheard of. In 2002 we made a major discovery of tugtupite on the eastern part of the Taseq Slope. We found veins of tugtupite in an analcime and/or lujavrite matrix. A major characteristic of the tugtupite found in this area is the presence of tugtupite crystals. Small vugs occur in the analcime matrix and occasionally small tug crystals are found. Now they have only been documented in these pieces from Greenland, and even then, very rarely. Keep in mind, tugtupite is really found nowhere else in the world, in spite of reports from MSH Canada and Kola Russia, none ever make it to market.
Of course, the tugtupite fluoresces a bright cherry red. Under LW, the color of the tugtupite shifts to the typical salmon color.

A personal note from Mark Cole, MinerShop
"As many of my followers have noticed, I (Mark) have retired from active sales. My daughter, Valerie, has joined the MinerShop crew and will be taking over our sales. She has assumed my large inventory of Greenland and other world-wide minerals, has learned to take the same great photos you've come to expect, and will offer the same great service you've gotten used to. She grew up around these minerals and, thankfully, got the glow-bug herself at a young age. A father's dream to have one of his children appreciate our hobby, insuring a home for his lifetime's passion. Please support her in this transition, and be assured I'm behind her every step of the way."
