Beautiful Hand Sculpted 10" Moon & Stars Made In Haiti, Item #1018
Made of Up-cycled Steel Oil Drums
Can be painted!  Use caution when handling, edges can be sharp!
Hand chiseled by Haitian workers with a Mallet & Chisel from RECYCLED Steel Oil Drums. Each piece is unique. The designs are chalked out on flattened recycled steel oil drums and cut with a mallet and chisel. This art form began in the late 1950's with a blacksmith whose name was Georges Liataud. Many sculptors have since followed his vision and these works are perhaps the most innovative and unique sculptures since Calder's Mobiles and grace such institutions as the prestigious museums of Modern Art in New York and Paris!
Please use caution & gloves when handling these pieces as the chiseled steel will cut your hands!
Note: These are great for indoor or outdoor decorating When used outdoors, they do eventually begin to turn a beautiful patina.  If you prefer the original look of the oil drum, take it down annually and spray with clear gloss varnish, Krylon crystal clear is recommended by the makers.  Please review the photos carefully and email us with any question prior to the purchase. (Found at art, hardware and Walmart stores), it will also help remove or restore any scratches.  If your piece is a painted piece, it is not recommended that it be displayed outdoors.  All dimensions and measurements are approximate!
