    Description

In April 2021 we re-visited one of our favorite Mahoney mine prospects and chipped some material off the wall in one of the mine adits.  This specimen was from a vein of white hydrozincite adjacent to a vein of silver-grey crystalline calcite
    (daylight photos #4 & 5).
Both veins were deposited over a long period of time inside a crack in what is now the mine wall.
Under short wave lamp the hydrozincite glows
    bright light blue
    and the
    calcite crystals glow
    red
    (photos #1-3).
Photo #6: Ken just inside the mine adit with our short wave Superbright II lamp.
Photo #7: Looking back toward the entrance from inside the mine.
Photo #8: Gail photographs Ken lamping the first location, which had veins of HZ and calcite glowing blue and red in SW.
Photo #9: Some of HZ veins, like this one, are surrounded by hard rock, so it's very difficult to chip off nice-sized specimens here.
    Weighs 6.0 oz. & measures 2.5 x 2.0 x 1.5 inches (#Mah-252).
