Lovely 1953 Coca-Cola Advertising Ink Blotter featuring Sprite BoyProduct Description
ARTIFACT:
Beautiful 1953 Coca-Cola Advertising Ink Blotter. The vibrantly colored blotter shows a red circle that reads: “DRINK COCA-COLA IN BOTTLES”, “GOOD!” and features the ‘Sprite Boy’ wearing a soda bottle cap as a hat and it reads: “MINIMUM CONTENTS & FLUID OZS. COCA-COLA REG. U.S. PAT. OFF” and he looks to be in the clouds with a nice, cold, bottle of Coca Cola. Sprite Boy appeared in magazine ads for the first time in January 1942 and was developed by Archie Lee of the D'Arcy Advertising Company. Items featuring Sprite Boy have always been popular with those who collect Coca-Cola memorabilia. Sprite Boy was featured on advertising and promotional materials — appearing on signs, cartons, posters, clocks, toys, blotters and games — until 1953. The bottom of the ink blotter reads: “LITHO IN U. S. A.”, “COPYRIGHT 1953, THE COCA-COLA COMPANY”. The reverse shows a light water stain and surface scuff (see photo) that does not detract from display.
