Description
Japanese Medals of Honor (hōshō褒章
) were established in 1881, and currently there are 6 different medals. They all share same design- characters
褒章
are flanked by Cherry blossoms. What is different is colors of ribbons- and this one is dark blue, first awarded in 1919 for Exceptionally generous donations to well-being of public. Each medal has a bar with date when it was awarded. All medals EXCEPT dark blue have engraved name of the recipient on the back, which is blank for dark blue ribbon medals. Date of Bar: Shōwa 32, 7

Box: Black lacquered latched box, with gild letters:
Medal of Honor (hōshō
褒章
). Inside is burgundy silk on the lid and burgundy felt at bottom.
Condition: minor tarnishing to the medal, abrasions to felt. Box: minor abrasions and scratches. Several chips with loss, most severe on the front.
