Description
A hand picked collection of "Fluorescent Fireworks" from the Long Lake Zinc Mine in Ontario, Canada.Eight ounces or more of Micro, Thumbnail, and Miniature specimens with varying amounts of Calcite (SW/UV red), Diopside (SW/UV blue), Chondrodite (SW/UV yellow), and Aragonite (SW/UV blue/white). Some pieces may also contain bright crystals of Chalcopyrite.
Long Lake minerals are known for their beautiful pastel colors, bright "Lightning Bolts" and spectacular starry night "Galaxy" patterns.
From the Long Lake Zinc Mine, Parham, Olden Township, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada.
Assorted specimens, assorted sizes.
Must be viewed with a short wave ( 254 nm ) ultraviolet lamp.
Pictures taken with a 12 MP camera and a 9 watt Way Too Cool short wave UV lamp.
**Important display suggestion** Since the Long Lake minerals are soft and pastel colors I have found that if they are mixed in a display with some of the bright in-your-face New Jersey minerals they do not show up well due to your eyes adapting to the brightest glow in the display. I have rearranged my display to keep the bright minerals in one area and the Long Lake minerals in another.
And, due to the subtle colorations of these minerals it is recommended that a 9 watt short wave lamp or greater be used to bring out the best colors.
