Japanese badges of various fire brigades are some of the most colorful and interesting areas of collecting. There were issued before the war, but since police, fire departments and civil defense were under police authority, merit badges were not as varied as in post war period.
This one is an award issued for Continuous (Long) Service Merit Award by the Fire Department in Fukagawa City, Hokkaido.
Box: Black resin, original adhered sticker reads: Continuous (Long) Service Merit Award (

). Added in pen is “20”- perhaps twenty years of service award?Blue sponge inside.
Date: probably 1990s
Condition: minor tarnishing, abrasions, hairline crack in white enamel, minor loss of gold plating.
