    Description

    Welcome!
Offered: a bolo which is attributed to Cecilia and John Lucio, very highly renowned Zuni artists, in the form of a Comanche kachina dancer with fabulous channel and mosaic inlay work of exceptional quality and with a carved face mask. The form is convex in shape, which is hard to inlay, and the quality of the stones is superb. The turquoise is rich and the red abalone very deep and rich in color against the multicolor abalone, mother of pearl and jet. This is a striking piece. One author depicts 2-1/2 pages of these in a book in which is raves about them and he seems to price them on the basis of their size, with the largest one, which is approximately the size of this one, being priced at up to 00. This particular one is a best example of this type and it's wonderful but I'm naturally offering it at a better price. This bolo has the original very old tips that are especially gorgeous and the tie is still in good condition. The piece may date to the 1940s since there are some marks on the back suggesting it was converted from hand made runners to the Bennet that was used in 1957-1967. The piece from the 1940s to 1950's. It's in great vintage, wearable and collectible condition.
The bolo measures 2-1/4" by 2-1/4" and it really glows with beauty. I've been wearing it and enjoying it very much. The excellent old heavy tips are 2-1/2" long and the tie with the tips end to end is a bit longer than 38".  These gorgeous old tips are very hard to find these days and they are quite valuable. There are hand made small raindrops applied at the ends of the feathers in the headdress. It's unsigned and not marked for silver content, which is usual for those times.
John Lucio was one of the truly great CG Wallace artists. I think he was a great man, as well! He is honored in most all the books on Zuni jewelry and is represented in the best galleries and museums.
Highly collectible and museum quality, this is a fabulous bolo which I recommend without reservation. The quality is superb and the piece is museum worthy.
This is highly collectible and a gorgeous bolo by one of the great master silversmiths in Zuni history. This is wonderful bolo, unique, especially compelling in its beauty, and the price is also compelling.
