Bold even by Bold Look-era standards, this necktie is almost 5” wide and draws inspiration from ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs and jewelry, decorated with falcons, ankhs, scarabs, the Eye of Horus, and more; all printed in red, cream, and pale cyan on a matte blue ground. Very unique—even the tag is specially designed to fit the theme! 100% silk, made by Ben Pulitzer, and sold through Macy’s Men’s Store, New York, c.mid-1940s/early1950s. Print advertising from 1950 promotes the “Egyptian Fantasies” collection as inspired by the historical novel “The Egyptian” by Finnish writer Mika Waltari (1908-1979); originally published in 1945, the work was translated into English in 1949 by Naomi Walford, and became a bestseller in the USA. Incredible vintage condition.
