Description
A very nice looking sports medallion for the: Brigade of Guards Athletic Meeting (is engraved) "Burton’s Court. July 18th 1903. 3rd Prize. Quarter Mile”. In it's old original fitted case by the famous jewelers: "Mappin Brothers 220 Regent Street London W." A nice crown over silver type print embossed makers label still inside the case. The bronze medallion, 1¾” diameter with a Victorian Crown emblem (regimental badge?) on the obverse side and the above wording on the reverse. There are makers marks on it which I think are a letter M over Bros over a floral type symbol for Mappin Bros. London
The medallion does show age and much patina but is in nice condition - the original fitted jewelers case does have much wear and some damage - it does not fully close or latch but the inside looks nice with the old white pillow type embossed makers lining to the lid.
This medallion (while not engraved) was purchased along with a Queens South Africa and Kings South Africa set issued to Sgt. G. Lewis. Scots Guards and I was told it was awarded to him for the above Sports Meet.
A nice piece of late Victorian - Early Edwardian Guards memorabilia.
Please examine the photos carefully before bidding as they form part of the item description and ask any questions that you may have before bidding.
Remember this is an ORIGINAL 117 Year Old Antique item and shows it's age and use consistent with it being over 115 Years Old!
